Overview
The Swedish Institute is located in New York City, and the school is committed to a natural approach to healthcare. The school was founded in 1916 by Captain Theodore Melander, a native of Sweden. Massage therapy classes have been provided here since the school's beginning, and the school also now offers a three-year Masters level Acupuncture Program. In addition to its undergraduate and graduate programs, the Swedish Institute offers Professional Continuing Education courses that help graduates maintain and continually improve upon their skills.

Student Appeal
Students are able to enroll in the school three times per year. The curriculum is exciting and innovative, and it is taught by professionals who work in the fields they teach. Students are able to directly apply what they have learned in the courses upon graduation at their places of employment, and employment assistance is available. The courses expose students to state-of-the-art techniques that put an emphasis on critical thinking. And, the school is located in one of the world's most exciting cities - New York City!

The Financial Aid Office will assist you in obtaining the aid for which you qualify and that's right for you. Accreditation
Swedish Institute and its programs* are accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC). Swedish Institute's programs are registered with and regulated by the New York State Department of Education and the Institute is authorized to grant certificates and degrees to graduates of its registered programs.
*Note: The Swedish Institute's Professional Continuing Education courses are professional or avocational in nature and as such are outside the scope of ACCSC's accreditation.

Programs Offered:
  • Medical AssistantMedical Assistant
    The Clinical and Administrative Medical Assistant curriculum focuses on acquiring the skills needed to assist physicians and other members of the health care delivery team. Students in the medical assisting courses learn clinical skills such as taking patient vital signs, phlebotomy/hematology techniques, laboratory procedures, electrocardiography (ECG) and knowledge basic pharmacology. Students also learn medical office administration skills, including reception, patient scheduling, billing, medical office coding, insurance and electronic health records management. General education courses in bioscience, psychology, information literacy and communications prepare a well-rounded graduate capable of career advancement and lifelong learning. A 200-hour clinical practicum provides an opportunity to practice skills in a workplace environment. Graduates are well prepared to begin their medical assisting career.
  • Advanced Personal TrainingAdvanced Personal Training
    The Advanced Personal Training coursework provides students with a strong academic and technical understanding for the profession of fitness training. It includes the study of basic and advanced topics in exercise science, addresses client-centered practice skills, and culminates in a final externship experience.
  • Massage TherapyMassage Therapy
    The Massage Therapy program is registered with and regulated by the New York State Education Department and accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT). Graduates who successfully complete this course are qualified to meet all other state requirements to sit for the New York State licensing examination in massage therapy. Graduates of our Massage Therapy Program are eligible to sit for the National Certification Exam (NCE) given by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).
  • Surgical TechnologistSurgical Technologist
    The Surgical Technologist Program will prepare students to become an integral part of the surgical team in a variety of perioperative settings. Students will develop an understanding of basic anatomy and physiology, surgical procedures, and safe and effective conditions required for surgery. Through laboratory and hands-on practice, they will learn procedures for creating and maintaining sterile conditions, setting up the operating room, and the preparation of equipment and instruments in advance of surgery. They will also study medical law and ethics, communication skills and health psychology, in order to be capable of delivering patient-centered care.
    As a health professional whose primary duty is assisting and attending the surgeon, a surgical technologist usually works under pressure - with focused concentration, speed and accuracy – for extended periods of time. The integrative approach at Swedish Institute will prepare students in our Surgical Technologist Program to work in this important field while caring for themselves as well as for their patients.
