Overview
Founded in 1834 by the Troy Conference of the United Methodist Church, Green Mountain College (GMC) has always maintained strong stance on its environmental mission throughout its history. At the heart of that mission is a 37-credit Environmental Liberal Arts General Education Program, which all GMC students complete. GMC has been offering distance education since 2006, featuring programs designed for students to complete their degree in two years, while balancing competing professional and personal obligations. Taught by leaders in the fields of renewable energies, sustainable agriculture, environmental writing and literature, conservation biology, natural resources management, and environmental law, philosophy, and policy, students receive a deeper and more authentic learning experience from an institution consistently ranked among the leading environmental higher education institutions in the world.
Student Appeal
GMC offers ideal online education for working professionals wanting to obtain their masters degree while keeping their current employments and minimizing time away from family and work. The distance MBA program is the first of its kind in the nation and fully accredited. The faculty possesses in-depth experience teaching and practicing sustainable business; many of the instructors have held executive positions at leading sustainable businesses and have extensive networks within the sustainable business community. Classes are capped at no more than 20 students per section to ensure meaningful interaction with fellow students and course instructors. Students gain access not only to outstanding environmental studies faculty, but also to GMC's Administrative Support Resources and Griswold Library, which includes more than 24,000 online book titles and features robust electronic research tools, with reference and research assistance available from professional library staff.

School Facts & Figures
This program adds to a traditional MBA degree foundation the study of managing for social and/or environmental sustainability. Through a succession of six-week online courses and two brief residencies on campus, students build a solid foundation in finance, accounting, marketing, organizational leadership, business law, and ethics, in addition to learning the principles of sustainable business that are woven through every course. A committed faculty with meaningful real-world sustainable business experience enables participants to graduate with a depth of knowledge, practical skills, and connections not replicated in any other sustainable MBA program.
