Overview
Established in 1879, Georgia Military College was designated as a Military Junior College in the 1950s and is today one of the fastest growing co-educational public institution. GMC provides liberal arts-based two-year undergraduate curriculum, along with ROTC training for selected students. In addition to offering Associate of Arts/AA and Associate of Science/AS degrees, the school now features online program offerings in a variety of disciplines from Business to Criminal Justice to Education and Information Technology. The Georgia Military College Associate degree in Logistics prepares graduate to work in the field of materials management, distribution, transportation, and supply chain management. Moving goods and services worldwide is a challenging professional area that requires high levels of sophistication in planning, organizing, storing, shipping, receiving, and access. Logistics management is part of all levels of planning and execution -- strategic, operational and tactical. It is an integrating function, which coordinates all logistics activities, as well as integrates logistics activities with other functions including marketing, sales manufacturing, finance, and information technology.
After completing core degree requirements, students will study the processes, work-flows, and technologies associated with logistics and the strategies for accommodating logistical supply and demand. Logistics management involves the governance of supply chain functions, which typically include inbound and outbound transportation management, fleet management, warehousing, materials handling, order fulfillment, logistics network design, inventory management, supply/demand planning, and management of third party logistics services providers. Moreover, the logistics function also includes customer service, sourcing and procurement, production planning and scheduling, packaging and assembly.
