Whether the focus is fine arts, production arts or the business side of the industry, BEAU programs are designed to help give students the knowledge and tools needed to see the bigger picture.

  • AAS-Digital Video and Media ProductionAAS-Digital Video and Media Production

    BEAU offers two programs in this area of study: the bachelor of fine arts and the associate of applied science. Both train students in the video production process from start to finish, including storyboarding, lighting, sound, editing and production management. The two-year program provides technical training in sound, lighting, camera operation and digital video editing, helping students build a foundation for positions in film, TV and web video production. All coursework in this program will transfer to the bachelor of fine arts program.

    Program objectives:
    BEAU's digital video and media production programs are designed to provide students with a strong foundation in pre-production, production and post-production.

    • Learn industry-standard digital video editing software
    • Write scripts for short and long format video productions
    • Communicate script and visuals through storyboards
    • Apply motion graphics to digital video footage
    • Set up sound and lighting for various types of productions
    • Design and author DVD menus

Bachelor's Degrees

    Comic books. Storyboards. Cartoons. Graphic novels. All of these creative products have something in common: they are based on the art of sequential imaging. At BEAU, you can learn to use an arsenal of artistic design elements to tell compelling visual stories.

    Program objectives:
    This program is designed to prepare students for work as illustrators, comic artists, graphic novelists, cartoonists and storyboard artists.

    • Practice freehand sketches and drawings
    • Develop simple sketches into polished and complete ink drawings
    • Use perspective to draw convincing environments, buildings and machinery
    • Learn figure drawing principles to create human figures, facial expressions and fantasy characters
    • Use standard graphic novel/comic/storyboarding formats to express ideas and story sequences

    Every year the video game industry continues to grow, churning out ever more complex storylines, stunning visual landscapes and memorable characters. Earn your Bachelor of Fine Arts in Game Art at BEAU, and you can be behind the scenes making virtual worlds come alive.

    Program objectives:
    This program is designed to develop your artistic skills and apply them to the video gaming industry.

    • Incorporate light, shade, color and detail in texture maps
    • Create models using principles of form, shape and structure
    • Generate creative content in the form of concept art
    • Express emotion in animation
    • Apply artistic skills to produce rich gaming environments

  • BFA-Graphic DesignBFA-Graphic Design

    Everywhere we go, we are bombarded by visuals. Cereal boxes, billboards, TV ads, websites—all of these visual media are carefully crafted by graphic designers. At BEAU, you can learn the art of using line, color, shape, typography and much more to create compelling visual messages tailored to specific audiences.

    Program objectives:
    This program provides students with a strong background in the principles of graphic design, preparing them for entry-level graphic and web designing positions.

    • Learn industry-standard software for image editing, page layout, vector illustration and web development
    • Understand the production process from concept through printing
    • Use design elements such as typography, light, shadow and color to create effective compositions
    • Prepare and present a design brief on how to rebrand an organization

  • BFA-Entertainment DesignBFA-Entertainment Design

    Design sets. Make 3-D models. Paint scenic backdrops. Construct props. Entertainment design is all about designing and building environments for TV, films and live shows. In this hands-on BEAU program, you'll get a foundation in artistic principles that will help you grow as a designer and learn the technical skills you need to complete finished pieces.

    Program objectives:
    This program combines artistic and technical skills training so you can design and construct convincing environments. When you graduate, you will have the knowledge and skills to:

    • Apply principles of perspective to sketch buildings, environments, vehicles and equipment
    • Communicate design specifications with drawings and 3-D models
    • Learn to design props and sets using computer-aided design (CAD) software
    • Develop 3-D animations of production designs
    • Build props, construct sets and create realistic environments for the entertainment industry

  • BFA-Music and Entertainment BusinessBFA-Music and Entertainment Business

    Earn an associate degree in music and entertainment business at BEAU, and become a self-starter in a fast-paced industry. Get schooled in the business behind the scenes—like how to create a label, develop a marketing strategy, manage upcoming artists, book the best venues and promote live tours.

    Program objectives:
    This associate of applied science program is designed to train entrepreneurs and industry-savvy business professionals who know the ins and outs of media marketing, content production and entertainment management.

    • Study intellectual property rights, digital rights management and contract law
    • Learn fundamental design concepts and creative copywriting
    • Use industry-standard software to create, develop and manage creative content
    • Analyze the challenges of launching and managing a media business

  • BFA-Music Production and EngineeringBFA-Music Production and Engineering

    The music industry has undergone massive changes in recent history. Gone are the days where musicians had to work with major record labels to make it mainstream. Modern production tools and distribution models have made it possible for anyone with talent and motivation to break into the scene. In the music production and engineering program at BEAU, you'll develop your musical ear, learn the technical skills you need to feel comfortable behind a console, and get an understanding of the business behind the music—preparing you for a career as a music producer, audio engineer or A&V technician.

    Program objectives:
    This associate of applied science program is designed to train producer-engineers and entrepreneurs who are proficient in modern recording technologies and techniques.

    • Learn analog and digital recording, editing and mixing techniques
    • Construct musical compositions using artistic, theoretical and technical skills
    • Manage a team of artists and technical staff to complete creative projects
    • Use emerging marketing and distribution techniques for the music industry

  • BFA-Sound Design for Visual MediaBFA-Sound Design for Visual Media

    Ever wonder what's behind the sound effects for a video game? Or who created that ringtone for your phone? Or how they edit together dialog in a movie? There's a whole industry dedicated to coming up with the audio track to our visual world, and it is made up of talented sound designers. Learn how to break into the industry at BEAU.

    Program objectives:
    The sound design for visual media program can give you access to the tools and equipment you need to develop the sonic complement to a variety of visual media, including TV, film, interactive web content, video games and mobile applications.

    • Study technical topics such as synchronization, sound effects, field location recording, dialog recording and editing
    • Use an industry-standard digital audio workstation to create, capture, edit, process and mix sound for video
    • Use desktop publishing tools to develop web and print marketing assets
    • Define intellectual property and explain its role in the global economy
    • Build a body of work in a variety of media to use as a demo reel

  • BS-Media BusinessBS-Media Business

    If you've already completed a two-year program in applied visual or production arts, BEAU offers a "2 + 2" media business program that can give you the business skills you need to move ahead. It's a way for you to go back to school and earn your bachelor's in as little as two years and prepare for exciting new opportunities in a rapidly changing industry.

    Program objectives:
    This program builds on an associate degree in either a technical or creative field, including audio production, graphic design, game design, video production, photography, communications or web design.

    • Examine related technical and business elements in media business
    • Learn appropriate writing styles for web, TV, radio, print and other media
    • Compare and contrast current media trends with traditional models
    • Use media advertising, web marketing and small business management
    • Develop entrepreneurial skills for navigating the industry
